The naked spinning hard drive disc is hungry for data and in its search it creates a fragrant cloud from vapours of status, longing, and aspirations. The disc spins at over 10,000 revs per minute. The fragrance has a base of the animal odour of castoreum under the green scent of laurus nobilis which denotes power and success smoothed with a tincture of church incense smoke and vetiver and spiked with birch tar oil.
The metaphor of ‘The Cloud’ the internet where data is stored obscures its physical reality of vast warehouses of metal and glass filled with computers which consume water and energy, demand security and are difficult to investigate.
